This
tiny former silver mining community
East of Salt Lake City was home to
over 25,000 people who worked the
mines until the beginning of the 20th
Century. Now Park City has became
one of America's most famous ski resorts
with outstanding variety and excellent
quality. A large man-made snow system
guarantees great ski conditions over
a vast and varied terrain often covered
with the fluffy powder that make Utah
famous. A World Cup stop since 1985,
Park City will host some Olympic events
in 2002. Since December 1991, the
World Cup tour has started there for
women and men after the early Glacier
races in Soelden or Tignes. Some of
the greatest technical specialists
have won there including Marc Girardelli,
Alberto Tomba, Thomas Stangassinger,
Erika Hess and Vreni Schneider.
Huge crowds attend those competitions
which are sometimes even more spectacular
because of the fine weather conditions.
Both World Cup racers and tourists
come to Park City to enjoy the perfect
re-creation of an old Western mining
town with great ski mountains in the
backyard.
