The
Lenzerheide-Parpan area has hosted
several women and men's World Cup
races in the past. The last women's
competitions took place in 1995. Situated
near Chur on the road to St Moritz,
the Lenzeheide valley is a beautiful
area with great skiing served with
an efficient lift system. The excellent
and varied skiing, boasts good hotels
and easy access to it one of the most
popular destination resorts in eastern
Switzerland. The women's downhill,
won by Picabo Street in 1995 is full
of tricky turns and very fast sections.
The most famous race, a men's slalom,
took place in Parpan in January 1984:
Phil and Steve Mahre, the legendary
twins from White Pass, Washington,
were disqualified after winning because
they accidentally wore each other's
race bibs. Only the Mahres and their
close friends noticed it, but they
told the race jury about the confusion.
A month later they won again for real
this time: at the Olympics in Sarajevo.
