Located
at the south-west of Linz on the way
to Graz, Hinterstoder is a small unspoiled
place with a happy and friendly atmosphere.
It maybe a modest ski area compared
to others, but its racing hill is
one of the most demanding on the World
Cup. Three men's races took place
there in recent years and they were
a huge success. Over ten thousand
fans came to watch the best technical
specialists in the world battle the
treacherous conditions. The winners
were Kjetil Aamodt and Michael von
Gruenigen in GS and Armin Bittner
in slalom and they were most deserving
of their achievements. The race organizers
do a great job in creating a tough
run on a bumpy course needing great
a physical conditioning and an outstanding
technique. Austrians haven't won there
yet, but hope springs eternal for
this season's mens races.
