Bode Miller missed first downhill podium

Bode Miller missed first downhill podium.

Bode Miller crashed out spectacularly in the final part of the challenging “Birds of Prey” course as he was close to reach his first downhill podium ever. He lost his balance coming out of the compression in the “Abyss” jump and shot high into the air before careering through a gate and into the catch fences. He picked himself up and reached the finish on one ski apparently unhurt, under the applause of the crowd.

He could have easily reached the top-3 according to his excellent intermediate times. After shooting high into the air before careering through a gate and into the nets, he slammed his hand in the snow in anger.

“It was the perfect hill for me, I was definitely skiing real solid” said the skier from New Hampshire who was leading by a commanding 71/100 of a second at the second interval at that moment.
“I got off the jump too far to the left and came out of the compression at the wrong angle and got snapped back. It was really dark a this point, I couldn’t see anything. I tried to make this turn pretty early, and I was over”.

“I don’t think that I took too may risks - it’s just a miss judgment. I didn’t calculate any specific risky choice. The speed was a lot higher for me then it was yesterday. The time to get back to the line, to set up that turn. I just landed straight. It was the only thing to do at that point. I’m just unlucky. I could probably do that 9 out of 10 times, and it gets fine. I just got down the wrong way”.

“I’m just a little bit sour, my body is just hurting a little bit, but that will be ok. I knew that I could be doing something really good on that hill, I blew a race, and everything has to be different tomorrow. I’ll have to give me another chance!”
