Daron Rahlves on the moon

Bode Miller missed first downhill podium

Stephan Eberharter is happy

Daron Rahlves on the moon !

A great day for your Daron?

“It’s hard to put words on this. I’ve always come here in saying that this is the kind of place to win for me. I can compare it to the feeling I have in Austria where skiing is so big!. Being on the US soil is something deep. I’ve always looked this downhill thinking that it was one for me. I was just excited to come here and get a chance”.
This year we had good conditions, the season starts strong for me. It was tough in Lake Louise, I really tried to push myself hard, but I was just unlucky. There has been hard work which has been made from this point - it paid off already today. I just want to let myself feel the emotion, and enjoy it”.

What was your tactic today?

“As in all downhill runs, it’s from the top to the bottom that you have to make the difference. All I wanted to do was to ski strong, and look for speed everywhere. I was telling myself, if you feel comfortable, keep looking for speed. It was tough, because it was dark and bumpy. I had a few little mistakes, I was going all over the places, but that’s the product of skiing fast”.

We saw Bode talking to you on the radio?

“I got some information from him after he crashed. He explained me how it was, and said that I had to ski as we planed yesterday. He said you can win this, so do it. It’s a little more encouragement that feels so good.
He said that it was really dark after the jump. I was then expecting really darkness, but it wasn’t that bad. I never know what happens because I never watch TV at the top. I just want to go out, and listen to the coaches and Bode had to say, and stick on that”.

You were skiing really fast in the upper section this time?

“I guess that we had some new skis. We spent some time with Willy thinking what we would do with them and how he will prepare them. It’s funny because last year, I had one training run in Kitzbühel, and one in Bormio, and I won both races. I feel really confident the way I’m skiing right now. When it’s so challenging, it brings more in me”.

How do you feel physically?

“I need some rest now. I spent all on my run today. I’ve been sick those last ten day. It starts to get better just better now. It’s the first day that I feel good. I just want to conserve some energy and relax. I change a few things tactically today comparing to yesterday”.
“You have to be ready to react quickly, find the right line. It’s a fair race here. Last year, I started 37th after the training DQ and I was 3rd. I like the way they cut the hill, and there is always hard snow. That’s the kind of race you can ask for”.
“There is a good chance that I could make a double win. That’s what I shoot for. Just try to ski as fast as I can tomorrow, and do a better job. I’m sure I’ll be on the same skis so, it’s a great opportunity to come back and have another good run tomorrow”.
